This Stack Overflow page summarizes the issue well, and a potential solution to retain EXIF orientation data in the new image. You can recreate this issue by using an unmodified image from an iPhone camera, for example.

I worked around the issue by re-exporting the image from Affinity Photo, so the correct orientation was ensured without needing the EXIF data.

Added a bunch more test cases to #132—this will ship with 1.1.0

Some images are still being rotated incorrectly. Submitted #158 as a solution. Sample images can be provided on request.
