Hey y'all.

I've given up on hooking into VS Code to read the current syntax tree, and instead created https://github.com/71/vscode-tree-sitter-api. Assuming that it works as expected, it should be easy to start adding features that rely on Tree Sitter to Dance.

Which keybindings from Helix would you like Dance to have? They can be based on Tree Sitter, but that's not necessary. For instance, I think I'll add a couple of goto commands to the g menu, like gr.

This is so cool! Awesome news. :) The number 1 Helix feature in my opinion is the easy "selection" movement, that was mentioned in:

Being able to press v to begin selecting is so much easier than holding down Shift constantly. :)

Would the goal eventually be to have a 1:1 mode to Helix behind a settings option, or to supplement the existing keybinds into a Kakoune-Helix hybrid? Personally full conformity with Helix seems ideal so that muscle memory is kept between them.

The goal is to have all (or most) keybindings for Helix, and a way for users to pick their keybindings. Not only choosing between Kakoune / Helix keybindings, but also choosing their keyboard layout.

Is it currently already possible to pick the Helix keybindings? I see all kinds of Helix-related code in the codebase, but I don't understand how I would switch to Helix keybindings.

@nightscape AFAIK this is not currently possible. Dance already has the commands that would support that but you'll need to create the keybindings yourself. I've found this comment here very helpful to do that myself: #299 (comment)

I also have the keybindings setup to be similar to the default bindings in helix. If you need a reference here are my vscode config files:
