Hi,
I just came back from a trip to Norway and had the chance to visit some great spots. I created a source here: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/RobinFrcd/AerialShots/master and I'd be glad to share them with the aerial community !

I'm open to any constructive comments on the shots themselves if then need some editing/colour grading.

Thanks

Hey @RobinFrcd

Awesome ! I very very quickly tried to add the source but I get a crash while downloading videos, a bit busy right now but I'll have a look tomorrow and let you know !

Thanks for the prompt answer! I just got an email from github saying:

Git LFS has been disabled on your personal account RobinFrcd because you’ve exceeded your data plan by at least 150%. Please purchase additional data packs to cover your bandwidth and storage usage

I guess that's why you got an error. How do people usually share their shots when they want to submit them to aerial ?

So the way I do it is make a release, it's a bit weird but that's not metered. Check: https://github.com/glouel/AerialCommunity/blob/master/entries.json

Basically you make a release with all your files like this : https://github.com/glouel/AerialCommunity/releases/tag/mw2-4k-sdr

And then you link as in the entries.json. Let me know how that goes for you but this has gotten a lot of traffic and it's fine here on a free account.

Alright thanks, it seems to work way better indeed! I've updated the entries with the links to the release files.

Can confirm it works and only had a very quick look but they look gorgeous. Lots of grain on first one, unsure if it's grain or rain actually, but otherwise really cool shots.

I'll have a better look tomorrow as it's getting really late and get back to you, don't hesitate to ping me if I forget as I'm a bit swamped right now with work.

I've tried to remove the noise from the first shot with FCPX but didn't manage to get something clean enough sadly 🤷

Hey no prob, and sorry got swamped again, didn't get to have a look yet but asked a friend to look at it, he might have some tips on colors and such. All in all this is a serious effort so I'm all for including them in some way or another. Feel free to talk to him, I'll follow the conversation.

Next release of Aerial I'm targeting Monterey release, so that would be around that time.

But again thanks for submitting them, I'll keep in touch.

Hey @RobinFrcd,

@glouel asked me to take a look and chime in here.

  1. First off, what a magical and beautiful place to have gotten to shoot. Looks like it must have been amazing being there!
  2. I noticed that you have a near duplicate of the Henningsvaer video
  3. As for color grading, to me the colors look a bit muted and the sky feels like it could benefit from some darkening. I'm not sure whether you have the videos in a compressed format or not, but that would be an area to look into tweaking from my perspective. It's been a while since I have edited videos (and I was never a grader) but I think that the tweaks could likely help amplify the beauty of the locations for screen saver use.
  4. Overall I think these would be great, let me know if you work on them further and I will continue to test them out on my setup!

Thank you very much for your feedback! I still have the dlog footage, so yes, I can still try to work on the color grading. I'll try to spend some time on final cut this weekend, I'll keep you in touch.

Thanks again!

@ZV00 @glouel Hi again, and sorry for the delay, have been a bit busy this week.

Anyway, you were right, I worked on the colour grading and I find it much better now. I couldn't manage to remove all the noise from the first clip, though. Here the link to all the clips in 4K (v1 is the version I sent 12 days ago and v2 is the new version).

Thanks again for your feedbacks !

@RobinFrcd very sorry for not anwsering sooner, my schedule is a bit of a mess. Happy to hear about the improvements, I'll check your v2 tomorrow. Realistically I'm hoping to release next version of Aerial in around 2 weeks, so looking around that timeframe to add your source in there. This will depend on if my schedule clears up a bit.

Again, sorry for the lag, rest assured, not forgetting you !

@RobinFrcd damn, apologies I again got stuck into work. I'll have a look asap, super sorry again. I may push a build of Aerial this week as I have some performance improvements in the works, if that's ok with you and everything is ok with the manifests I'll add your videos then.

Again, sorry for not following up.

@glouel No problem at all, thanks again for your work!
I think I'm happy with this version of the shots, yes. Maybe @ZV00 still has some comments before adding these to the release ?

Ok, AGAIN massive apologies... but I finally got a chance to check them and they really cleaned up in the new version, really nice.

I'll be working on next beta next week and I'll ping you to finalize the inclusion if that's ok with you.

Again, many thanks for your patience and thanks for sharing those really cool shots !

Hello there 👋
I've added a few more shots taken in the French Alps, facing the Mont Blanc. If anyone is interested: https://github.com/RobinFrcd/AerialShots/releases/tag/french-alps-2022-v1

I zapped you again, seriously, thanks for not getting mad at me, you should. I'll have a look tonight, for real. Harrass me if not ;)

Ok first before I forget, the only big issue I have is with the duplicate video names. I suggest you go with Alps, Sea of Clouds 1 & 2, this can cause issues sometimes to have the same name twice.

Second, they definitely look awesome. The 2nd Alps is slightly sureal when you start panning up, it's like there's a paralax effect with the clouds, really cool effect.

They all look really clean otherwise, no graining, etc, really cool.

If that's ok with you, I can put your source on the more videos repository here: https://aerialscreensaver.github.io/morevideos.html

This gets a fair bit of traffic as it's linked from the app. This way you can keep control of your manifests and add more shots as you go if you want. does that sound ok to you ?

Again, I deeply, truly apologize for not getting back to you earlier as I had promised.

Take care

I've updated titles as suggested: Alps, Sea of Clouds 1, Sea of Clouds 2.
Thank you very much for the feedback, it would be an honour to have my videos featured in the community tab! 🥳

I made a small video like the one from Joshua & Hal, is it useful ?

Again, many thanks for your awesome work on Aerial!

That's awesome, thanks for the intro video, it looks really cool too and makes it more appealing.

I'll update the website tomorrow (again if I don't, post here again, I see the notifications) and I'll ping you here when done.

Take care !

Hey @RobinFrcd

I just pushed the update to the website with your video included here:

https://aerialscreensaver.github.io/morevideos.html

It's also on the main page :

https://aerialscreensaver.github.io

I'm not entirely happy about the process of adding videos this way (via the Add online button) and will likely improve that in the future, but that will have to do for now. I didn't ask but is there a twitter handle or a link somewhere you want me to add to the page so people can give you a shoutout or something ?

Again, many thanks for your patience here and let me know if you update the manifest or post more videos.

Take care !

Thank you so much for the quick update!

I guess a link to the github repo somewhere would be great.

Sure, I'll ping you after my next trip if I manage to take some great shots! 🏃‍♂️

@glouel Hi again ! I went to Reunion Island 🇷🇪 a few weeks ago to visit my family and took a few shots of the beautiful nature the island has to offer.

I uploaded the shots (4k only for now) here for you to have a look: https://github.com/RobinFrcd/AerialShots/releases/tag/reunion-2022-4k
If you think some shots should be edited, or removed, no problem !

Is that ok for you if I add them to https://github.com/RobinFrcd/AerialShots/blob/master/entries.json directly ? Or should I create a new one ?

Maybe:

  • Lagon is a bit too short and noisy ?
  • Piton des Neiges is a bit too dark at the end (gives some style tho)
  • Mafate too noisy ?

cc @ZV00 for your insight too !

Hey @RobinFrcd !

I just had a look, those are some awesome shots. I never got to visit La réunion but those are incredible, the colors on Piton des neiges are spectacular, and the drone movements are perfect, the slightly curved path on some like Cap Mechant makes it quite interesting.

I would say, add them to your existing source, this way it will make it easier for people to get them. Let me know when you are done and I'll try to update aerial's website this week to give them more visiblility. At some point I should probably add your source as a default source for everyone too, I'll try to do that for the next large update at some point if that's ok with you.

Take care and ping me after your update to your source.

G.

The source has been updated with 10 new shots !

It would be an honor to have some shots in the default source ! If it's going to happen, feel free to tell me if you want to do a selection of the shots as it's starting to grow (18 shots in the source already).
I'm going to try to update the preview video to include the new shots too !
