im sort of new to all of this so i might be missing something, but are you planning on making it so we can change anything about the height map without rivers and altered coast lines getting undone?

Rivers are based on heightmap, so changing heightmap will change rivers. I cannot remove the dependency. But if you need a minor edit, you can use Keep option, the rivers will stay as they are.

Hi, I stumbled across this wonderful world generator a couple days ago. I am impressed with the rich details it is capable of creating. Truly immersive experience! I can spend hours studying the geopolitics of these states because it is so fun. I have a couple recommendations for improving the app's realism. It is going to be more enjoyable if certain aspects are tweaked.
One thing I'd like to point out (I have found it to be bizarre) is the generation of routes. It appears that both roads and trails are generated as trees. While they allow every country to be connected together, neighboring towns from different countries are almost never connected since they are positioned at the end of the branches. Is it by intentional design? I think that a realistic solution would simply be to weave all towns and cities into a network of trails (towns always connect to their neighbors) as in real world while maintaining the structure which major cities are connected (with long, transcontinental highways). Sea routes should work like this too.
Talking about major cities, population is an issue as well. First, it is heavily influenced by the presence of roads (highways). A long road can have dozens of 100K+ cities along its way but none can be found beyond. This is fine but concentration of population can be caused by more things (port, landscape etc.). Considering the way roads are generated, this problem results in some strange circumstances. (For example, a city by a road has 500K population while its capital, a port city, has only 4K). I think populous cities should be spawned in more places.
Then, the distribution of population is also not quite right. Sometimes, a vast region would contain no burg but its rural population is nearly uniformly distributed, making its population huge. I would say that make rural population concentrate at several points while reducing the rest.
Eventually, the markers (special places) can be improved by expanding them. There can be more types of markers and more chances of generating them.

1. Routes. This is an approximation to make the path finding faster, generally it's a very slow algorithm and we need to optimize it a lot. It can be improved by some more advanced logic implementation.
2. Cities. I can lower the effect of routes on population. It may be overestimated.
3. Population maily depends on biome. It may look weird, but the same is happening in real world.
4. Sure, it all can be expanded. But it takes a lot of time, one feature can take a few months.

I'm still using and loving this project. I am amazed at the steps you have taken over the last 18 months.

Would it be possible to have code scan the neighboring cells for their rural population and the presence of burgs, and have some sort of urbanization slider to adjust how much rural population can exist before a burg populates as a hub for the area (and then creates routes etc.)? Is that a feature worth the work?

Hello. That's doable, but required a lot of calculations and would be hard to fine-tune. So it may be too slow on run and to develop. I believe the current approximation is more or less usable as for now. I would like to make the workd more plausible (like add more detailed precipitation model, currents, cyclons etc.), but that takes resources.

I hope you are still working on your map generator because it is fantastic !
I have some suggestions/issues :

• Allow to custom biome's icons which are shown on relief icons layer.
• The ability to show/don't show subcategories. For example : grass icons on relief but the trees are still visible. Or only 1 group of Labels : show only state names but not the others.
• Making rivers by clicking at the source and where it goes in the sea. It avoids the river going wild where we don't want to.
• In heightmap add the possibility to make the relief match the custom rivers (to avoid river going up, the hills go around)
• Putting emblems directly on the map, next to the cities of the states

that's all !

Yes, I'm still working on it. Thanks for the suggestions!

• Custom biome icons - are kinda planned, but that's pretty complex and not a priority
• Subcategories are not planned
• Rivers go downhill, so you need to amend heightmap first. Then there is a button to create a new river in a cell
• I don't believe it's possible. Rivers should follow heightmap, not the way around
• That's already possible via Emblems layer
