parsing user defined functions

How do I correctly add awk user defined functions to the server, so that if they are called with a wrong number of agrs, an error would be returned? And also a separate user-written docs for such functions would be nice to have...

Ideally, it might be a separate project-specific file with such functions so it could be quickly turned on or off depending on the project.
