Positron and other CARTO base map labels don't overlay layers #33

The town/city/state labels do not overlay layers, which makes it harder for users to locate specific places.

Using Google Maps base maps solves this issue, but those base maps are worse for a number of reasons

  • border aliasing is worse than carto base maps
  • for some reason google maps layering forces label interaction, creating these unwanted popovers
  • the google maps positron text is hard to read overtop of colored maps
