As discussed in today's CDNO call with @LilyAndres @Graham-J-King and @ddooley, we discussed the following hierarchy:

quality
    nutritional functional attribute
    physical quality
        energy (PATO)
        	dietary net energy (CDNO) ->

        	nutritional non-dietary energy (CDNO)
        		non-dietary metabolizable energy (CDNO)

        	dietary energy (CDNO)
        		dietary metabolizable energy (CDNO) -> map to USDA/INFOODS

Where dietary net energy could be defined along these lines:

Net energy (NE) is defined as the change in retained dietary energy per change in energy consumed, which is equivalent to ME minus total heat production (HP) from all sources

nutritional non-dietary energy would be what you'd get in parenteral nutrition.

As an aside for mass density and specific gravity

Specific gravity is the ratio of a material's density with that of water at 4 °C (where it is most dense and is taken to have the value 999.974 kg m -3). It is therefore a relative quantity with no units.

Hi @kaiiam I just wanted to check, did we or you ended up creating definitions for those new terms that would be added in CDNO?

Hi @kaiiam let me know if you have some particular definitions you want to discuss with the group, I can add this in the next release.
