Describe the bug
The fix_metadata preprocessor step can hang if executed in parallel on CMIP3 data. This is illustrated in recipe_bock20jgr.yml.

This looks like a duplicate of #430

@zklaus I don't think we can fix this for 2.4, man - way too related to #430 and that one is probably one of the most complex issues to fix at the moment
