I'd like to suggest a more gentle gentle approach for the visual bell.
I believe letting the whole screen flash white, when most people have a black background, is very displeasing for the eye. In addition, it seems that all terminal screen lines do not flash at the same time. It looks more like a white camera shutter very quickly sliding from top to bottom. Third, I think having the whole screen flash is rather harsh.
I have no concrete idea, but my suggestion go in the following direction.
Let the user configure in which color the terminal should flash. So people are able to set a less bright flash color.
Make the screen flash even/regular/steadily, whatever the right word is used here.
Maybe don't make the whole screen flash, but only the cursor, or the one line the cursor is in.
Thanks and 💓
