An optional setting to enable wildcard search in pop up mode could be quite useful, with warnings that it can slow down things and recommendations to either turn it off completely or for example turn word scan limit down. Perhaps should be tested first to see how much it actually slows things down on modern hardware, with appropriate perf warnings about slow machines if it does.

If the text is either censored with 伏字 (〇 etc) or cut off on purpose - like signs/inscriptions in manga/anime/etc (natural paneling and cropping), or people getting cut off mid sentence for plot reasons - happens everywhere including books... searching for half-phrases and words which are already shown could be very useful in understanding the scene/what's going on/what's somebody intended to say.
Typos, happens with everyone incl. natives but makes looking up and grasping mangled or mistyped words/phrases rather difficult for beginners.
