The invidious support is cool (however clunky) but there is also a similar YouTube reader called Piped.

IMO having a second privacy-friendly alternative other than invidious would help diversify the options on the app.
It has a whole host of options that are comparable or possibly better than invidious.
Here are the features from their README:

Also I am not sure if I am correct but it may be more lightweight than invidious.

This may be an interesting feature to add to FreeTube and should be considered.
