I am a junior full stack developer with an Art History background. A few months ago I started Makers Academy web development Bootcamp, where I paired every day and learned Ruby, Rails, JavaScript and, for the final project, Elixir, Phoenix and React. During the course, I also learned and practiced the principles of well-written code and applied agile methodologies such as pair-programming, test-driven development, behaviour-driven development, retros, and stand-ups.
Project | Summary | Technologies | Testing |
---|---|---|---|
PickABook | Group project to create a web app to swap used books | Elixir, Phoenix, React.js | ExUnit, Jest, Enzyme |
Notepad | Group project to create a notepad application | Vanilla JavaScript, HTML/CSS | Own Testing Syntax |
rpsls | A JavaScript Rock-Paper-Scissor-Lizard-Spock game | Vanilla JavaScript, HTML/CSS | Karma, Jasmine |
Chitter | My own "Twitter" | Ruby, Sinatra | RSpec, Capybara |
Before starting Makers Academy, I taught myself Javascript and jQuery and made some projects (see Other projects).
During the 12-week Makers Academy course I have deeply experienced pair programming, retro, stands up.
In the last two weeks of the course, we chose to do a new language for the backend (Elixir) with a new framework (Phoenix) and use a new Javascript library (React) for the frontend. As a group, we faced many challenges but we used them as learning opportunities, to push and develop ourselves.
I’m professional and I have good organisational skills, always keen to learn and push myself and the team forward.
I have a natural approach to facilitate other people’s learning, as I have done during my previous job. As a retail assistant, I was sent to Milan to support during the opening of the first store in Italy. My task was to train the new local personnel, and also thanks to my support and coaching, they all passed the probation period and were ready for the role.
