In some subshells `cat /dev/urandom | tr -dc 'a-z0-9' | fold -w 20 | head -n 1` can hang with the pipe being closed by `head` leaving `fold` attempting to write into a pipe which blocks indefinitely. This removes the buffering fold performs by changing the pipeline to read a byte at a time and stop when the number of required random characters is satisfied. Fixes GoogleCloudPlatform#245
