Current Behavior

I keep having to set 'threshr channel' as an env var, but it never changes and it's not a secret.

We want to be sure this isn't a one-off problem.

  • This problem is something that I can consistently produce.

Expected Behavior

it'd be better to have this as a default value with some option to change it if you really want to.

Steps To Reproduce

running a full test suite w/o an assignment for threshr_channel will cause a failure
