Hi, this is 1 of 2 of our ideas
Develop a risk scorecard / index to assess environmental impact based on SCI (Grams CO2eq per
kWh), water use (liter per kWh) and energy consumption (in kWh). This gives us a way to classify processes in terms of their impact to the environment looking at the three main environmental problems we currently face: GHG emissions, water
scarcity and energy loss. Specific threshold levels for each colour are determined based on existing data for processor SCI,
water use and energy consumption
e.g. (example figures)
For SCl (Grams CO2eq per kWh):
<150 (Green)
am
'h 300 (Amber)
Outputs would be in some sort of structured format for ingestion by dashboards or offline display. Note this also involves development of a plugin or plugins that measure water use.
Our biggest questions are around where we can find the datasets and/or evaluation mechanisms to decide where thresholds should be set (or should they be user-based?) and the best way to break this down in a real system - we may decide to do this just for a particular resources such as a VM.
