I've seen some discussion about apps in ~/Applications vs /Applications. However, today I found an issue with 1Password refusing to work for Chrome when it's installed in ~/Applications.

Given its error message, I think this might become a problem for other applications in the future as well:

Try moving Google Chrome to your /Applications folder to satisfy the Mac App Store sandbox requirements.

For now, I simply copied the application to /Applications manually (symlinking returns the same error), but is there a better way to handle this?

This isn’t a common issue in general, but has come up a few times relating to the Chrome + 1Password combination. Please see #1351 for a resolution.

Hi!

There is nothing built-in to handle this currently. In the long term, we want to make a configurable option to copy or hardlink applications instead of symlinking them, and persist options in a config file. I'd also like options to be overridable on a per-Cask basis.
