Privacy Policy for the "Insight" App Last Updated: 31st August, 2023

Introduction

"Insight" is a non-profit initiative by Turing, the Computer Club of IISER Mohali. It aims to provide a common platform for students to access various services and information relevant to their college experience. The app includes features such as a lost and found system, hostel complaints system, event calendar, campus map, mess menu, important contacts, and club/student body pages. This privacy policy outlines how "Insight" collects, uses, and protects user information.

Types of Information Collected

  1. Personal Information: When a user chooses to log in using their IISER Mohali email ID, the app mandatorily collects their name and registration number (obtained from the Institute email).

  2. Non-Personal Information: The app may collect non-personal information, including usage patterns and interactions with the app's features as a part of the Analytics service.

  3. Third-Party Services: "Insight" uses Google-provided APIs to facilitate student authentication and login. Google's privacy practices apply to the information shared during this process.

Collection Methods

The app collects information through user input during registration and login. Additionally, non-personal information is collected through user interactions with the app's features by means of Google Analytics.

Use of Collected Information

  1. Personal Information: The collected personal information is used to provide personalized services within the app, such as displaying the user's name and registration number and for ensuring authorised use of the app and it's features.
  2. Non-Personal Information: The collected non-personal information is simply to gain an overall idea of usage statistics and patterns. This information is used to improve the app's features and services.

Data Sharing

  1. Third-Party Services: The app uses Google-provided APIs for student authentication. Information shared during this process is subject to Google's privacy policy.

  2. Internal Sharing: "Insight" does not share any data with any other body not directly associated with the app or it's functionalities.

Security Measures

The "Insight" app employs reasonable security measures to protect user information from unauthorized access, modification, or disclosure. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is entirely secure. The app uses secure and well-known database sevrices to store user information, such as MongoDB and Firebase.

Retention Period

User information is retained for as long as necessary to provide app services. Upon user request or account deletion, personal information will be securely deleted.

Children's Privacy

"Insight" can be used by children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children in this age group.

Changes to Privacy Policy

Any updates to this privacy policy will be communicated through the app or via email to registered users.
