Error downloading #9816
Comments
HI the http status code 403 means forbidden. So JabRef cannot access the site. Do you have some more steps on how to reproduce this? e.g. which website you tried |
@Siedlerchr, thank you for your reply! It is the following Journal from Taylor & Francis: Not sure why it is forbidden, I have access to download the file. |
I think, this should be discussed in the form. We do not know, which steps you took. Do you download the PDF? Do you fetch an entry somehow? Which data do you use? |
Ok, it does not seem to have something to do with Taylor & Francis, the same happens for Sage Journals. I simply click the extension when I'm on the journal article. Then the "Error connecting to JabRef" pops up in another tab (however, the entry is sent successfully to jabref) and after I click "import entries" I get the "Error downloading" |
Please check the error console of your browser |
It's a known issue that sometimes the browser extension shows an error page although the import was successful (and there is an issue already for this). However, the error dialog on the JabRef side needs improvement: explain what 403 means and suggest solutions (not everyone knows this), and also report the url it tried to download; finally, it should proceed with the import and save the file url just as an linked url in the file field. |
@Siedlerchr The error console in Brave looks as follows. Maybe has something to do with Brave ad blocking? @tobiasdiez Yes, I know that this issue on the tab with the error message is covered in another issue. However, I reported it because I was not sure if this has anything to do with the "Error downloading" issue. |
I encountered the same issue on another page. I have created a follow up issue. JabRef cannot download the file. I guess because of some cloudfare protection |
@tobiasdiez, since Christoph has created a separate issue for the 403 status message via #9826 should we move this issue here back to JabRef/JabRef-Browser-Extension? |
When I use the extension I get the following error message:
(Win10, Brave [Chromium112], JabRef5.9)
