I'm not sure if you're aware but I just discovered this PR on vscode — microsoft/vscode#66418.

I'm very excited to see what may come of this with this extension!

Also, on the note of #1108 I'm pleased to say I'm still pursuing the idea of adding the ability to perform LaTeX calculations, however I've moved on from mathjax as I've been lucky enough to discover a JavaScript symbolic math library which is in the process of adding support for LaTeX math (see jiggzson/nerdamer#426 ). I'm currently helping out with that and once that reaches a good level I'll start trying to integrate it into a code lense etc. 😃

Woo this is a quite good feature. We may consider adding something like jupyter notebook w.r.t. image and equation previews.
