Selection doesn't move scroll in TextField with horizontalScroll modifier.

I want to show text snippets at a compose-desktop application.

• It must show text without word wraps
• It must be possible to select a piece of this text and copy it.

The best prototype I've created so far:

The main problem I have with this solution is horizontal scrolling isn't work during selection (Screencast to demonstrate the problem).

Any suggestions how to deal with it?

It's not that straight-forward to use your suggestion, though. I keep getting

java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Mismatching scroller orientation; only single-line, non-wrap text fields can scroll horizontally

after several approaches. Probably because I need multi-line text-field and it's usually wrapped into Box to add a scroll-bar.

Is it even possible to use it with multi-line TextField?

Unfortunately no. This is a limitation of the TextField itself: only a text field that has maxLines = 1 and softWrap = false and has imeOptions.singleLine = true can be scrolled horizontally (and vice versa).

Why did you close this discussion as a resolved in this case? This answer is helpful for my understanding of BasicTextField scrolling options. It might become a key part of the solution if I'll manage to connect multiple single-liners into one selectable text field. But it's clearly not a full solution for the initial case yet and I'd be happy to hear other suggestions.

Would you mind to reopen it? I can't find an option to reopen it myself. Probably you have more rights in this repo.

I closed it because as far as I understood, it answers your question. I'm the developer who implemented scrollbar support for textfields in Compose Desktop, so I feel I have sufficient knowledge on the topic.
