We need volunteers!

For the moment: Website frontend is covered.

  • We will need content mirrors, and helpers to administrate where needed.
  • Community ambassadors, for both mod makers and mod users.

I need to check how much, but the KSP-CKAN has some hosting credits we can throw at medium-term (up to a year) hosting of mods. It's always been our plan to use them for this purpose as part of KSP-CKAN/CKAN#935, but obviously it makes sense for us to accelerate that now. I'm looking at getting the existing KS mods loaded into buckets ASAP to minimise user outages with the CKAN.

Longer-term I may be able to negotiate more permanent hosting sponsorship, but it depends upon how warm my contacts are and how much they play KSP. It would probably require that KS-Reborn be non-commercial (which seems likely), and may require a small "hosting provided by X". I'd estimate at least two weeks for such negotiations, and I can't guarantee their success.

That sounds good, at least while we get everything up and running.

Would you mind me adding you to what will be the "hosting" team for spacedock?

I will volunteer, definitly.

I have decent experience with HTML, CSS and Python, so I will be able to add features to the new site, when needed. I also have some administration skills, and my server has a traffic flatrate, even though the bandwidth might get limited. That could maybe get useful, in the future.

I have much free time, so if you need sth. I will see what I can do. 😃

I can volunteer to help out as well. I've got decent webdev experience and some server administration experience as well. Happy to help out wherever hands are needed.

@phmayo What are the spec requirements for a content mirror?

Have to check, but I might be able to make a small vServer instance available quickly this week (and provide admin level access to the container), but it will definitely not be able to stand against a full-scale assault of mod-crazy Kerbals on its own.

We don't know yet. #2 is the go to point for mirroring.

On its own, KS sucked about about 20TB/month at its peak.

Sure, I'll see what I can do.

@phmayo I could handle about half of that, or the entire thing for a short period.

As you know i'm already working on getting the site up in VITAS' server, I have a lot of experience with the KerbalStuff code as I run a site based on it (modulous.net)

Saw it was covered but thought I'd offer my front-end support anyways. Let me know if anything is needed! Personally I always thought the design could've benefitted from a little clean up.

@sharksharkco Our fork of the KS site code is here, if you want to contribute something (even if it's just an issue!): KSP-SpaceDock/KerbalStuff

I just spotting the shut-down announcement, and saw this project mentioned as well. I'm totally willing to help. It was hosted on Linode, yes? I'm a linux admin, out in the real world, in case those skills are helpful.

EDIT: Also, in the short term if it would help at all, my mods are hosted on my own website as well and could have the download links pointed there from CKAN.

I'm happy to help as much as I can. Don't think I can contribute much at this stage, but am happy to throw a regular cash contribution once a system is set up.

What about the server? I have a little unused full-managed at low cost (get with discount) with a serious italian host (server are in German). If upgrade are needed I can try to talk with them to upgrade at reasonable price. The problem is that I work hard (10-12hours/days) so I don't have much time but to help Ksp community I am here to help.

Well, VITAS from CKAN is working on getting his server set up, but we will be in touch, @Preliator. Thanks for all y'alls offers.

I'm happy to be either the community ambassador and/or programmer. I have experience with HTML/CSS and a tiny bit of JavaScript. PHP is not strong, but I think I can cope.

Currently I'm just working on the finishing touches of a KSP magazine called, The Kerbol. It is only the first issue and more stuff will be added in the future. Here's a small preview, The Kerbol.
