closely related use case: https://agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1029/2021MS002893, using SISAL and a different model for parameter optimization.

@CommonClimate I revisited the iTRACE data recently and remembered that one of the challenges was that it lives behind authentication layers that I haven't figured out a way to navigate. I'll see what I can learn about whether there's been any internal progress on a Globus-NCAR pipeline, but at the moment, that's a blocking step.

I can look into SISAL and try to figure out the model output used in this paper though. It seems like they are slices purpose-chosen, and I'm not sure where the rest of the output resides, but I'll look into it.
