fails on changing compound objects in /postcards but not in /BowdenTest #41

when we ran edits (with no content changes) in /postcards, the compound object (e.g. KY-XYZ1-1) would fail but the individual items (KY-XYZ1-1_Recto) would succeed.
this didn't happen in BowdenTest. What's different?
