I believe we have replicated the issue. The ProxyStream in the hystrix-dashboard app does not flush the stream so on low velocity metric streams it is waiting for the buffer to fill before flushing. Turbine de-dedupes whereas the origin Hystrix app does not. This meant that enough data was flowing from the origin to trigger buffer flushes but against Turbine it was not. A fix is being worked on now and should be published today. |

No luck. I see the same problem whether I use the referenced war download or building with the latest source and running using Jetty. Jason had indicated that it might be a Turbine problem, in which case an updated dashboard would probably not fix the problem. |

The Turbine "problem" was that it de-dupes so causes a lower velocity stream of data which was triggering the flushing bug on simple apps with a small number of infrequently changing metrics - at least that's the only way we were able to replicate the issue via Turbine. Can you capture the output from your sample app hystrix.stream using curl and put it somewhere for me to download? Please capture about 30 seconds worth of the stream. I want to use it as a source for Turbine and the dashboard to try and replicate your issue. |

That stream only has the threadpool data in it which is the bottom half of the UI which is why the UI isn't showing anything on top. You should see lines of data with "type":"HystrixCommand" in them. The other thing obviously wrong with that stream is it is saying: "reportingHosts":329003 You definitely don't have that many servers being monitored by Turbine. Can you configure Turbine to point at only 1 of the servers instead of 2 to see if it still has a problem? If it does, then please capture the outputstream of the origin Hystrix server and the output from the turbine server and paste them here. Or if you want to, hop onto #HystrixOSS on Freenode IRC and we can chat interactively about this which may be easier. |

I've reconfigured to one server and see the same problem. Also, when connecting directly to the server @ http://10.81.65.227:8080/BobApp/hystrix/hystrix.stream, i'm now only seeing "loading...". In the Javascript console is see the following errors: EventSource's response has a charset ("iso-8859-1") that is not UTF-8. Aborting the connection. |

@opuneet found and fixed the bug in Turbine and found a small issue that I'll fix shortly in Hystrix. It was related to the ThreadPool and Command having the name name combined with a mistake when converting from internal names to the Hystrix names when we opensourced Turbine. If you are able to do a build from source the fix is already included here: https://github.com/Netflix/Turbine If you can't build from source we will get a binary built and deployed. |

The count shows however many streams Turbine has been able to connect to and are emitting data for a given metric - not just how many are configured. Each of the 2 servers must have been accessed at least once in order to emit data for HystrixValidatePinCommand. In other words, Turbine may be connected to both servers but the HystrixValidatePinCommand may have only been invoked on 1 of the 2 and thus only received that metric from 1 server. Can you confirm that both of the 2 servers are receiving traffic that touches that command? If both of the origins are receiving traffic and thus emitting metrics then the next place would be the Turbine logs to see if it is reporting errors in connecting to one of the instances. |

I checked the tomcat/turbine logs and see the following error for the server that it's not reporting statistics for: HTTP Status 503 - MaxConcurrentConnections reached: 5 I restarted the server, but still see the error. I don't see anything in my application webserver (JBoss 7.1.x) configuration that would limit the number of connections to 5. Is there some other Hystrix/Turbine configuration to increase the number of connections, or is there something else amiss? |

The hystrix.stream servlet is configured by default to prevent more than 5 connections so a runaway client can't take down a production box (learned from experience in production) since the connections are held permanently open as long as a client is there. The limit is for anything accessing hystrix.stream - not any other access points. If you are hitting the limit of 5 that tells us that something is opening and holding connections (I had this once happen with a background terminal where I had a client in a loop for testing). I can see a bug in the hystrix.stream implementation that would hold a connection open ... if the server does not yet have any HystrixCommand objects executed there will be no data to stream and it will loop indefinitely holding the connection open - even if the client has walked away. |

If you can build from source please update from Hystrix/master and try again. The hystrix.stream will now handle a server not generating any metrics and correctly close the connection. Here is how the issue looked: Now it looks like this: |

Looking much better now. I redeployed with the latest version of Turbine and I now see both the circuits and threads for both servers in the cluster. |

FYI, i still see this: Also, when connecting directly to the server @ http://10.81.65.227:8080/BobApp/hystrix/hystrix.stream, i'm now only seeing "loading...". In the Javascript console is see the following errors: EventSource's response has a charset ("iso-8859-1") that is not UTF-8. Aborting the connection. |
When I use turbine as an aggregator I do not see command metrics. If I attach directly to each server I do see the command metrics.
