This avoids possible conflicts with system's package update mechanism (pacman, apt etc).

Actually OBK doesn't have an auto update feature. OBK only notifies the user when there is an update available.
But having a option to configure the feature doesn't hurt 😉

This feature has been implemented. Now a user can configure the update checking from Settings dialog. There is also a menu item in the About menu section for update checking.
