Description of the issue

According to section 2 of this paper, models can be classified as:

top-down vs. bottom-up (economic or technological components of the simulation), equilibrium vs. optimization vs. simulation, and intertemporal vs. sequential.

Question: should we add these model types into the OEO?

I am not an energy expert, but if I understood correctly, a model covers a geographic region and a sector. If so, I was wondering if we should add the following relations:

  • A 'model' is_about a 'spatial region'
  • A 'model' is_about a 'sector'

Workflow checklist

  • I discussed the issue with someone else than me before working on a solution
  • I already read the latest version of the workflow for this repository
  • The goal of this ontology is clear to me

I am aware that

  • every entry in the ontology should have a definition
  • classes should arise from concepts rather than from words

We already have an issue regarding the axioms of model, see #1060.

We also already have a couple of subclasses:

top-down vs. bottom-up (economic or technological components of the simulation), equilibrium vs. optimization vs. simulation, and intertemporal vs. sequential.

We should focus on this part of the issue. With repect to #1060, these categories would be subclasses of methodology.

Since the classification of model was updated in #1707, I close this now.
