All users shown have avatars on rocketchat - but only some of them are showing up in the sidebar.

This issue does not exist in the chat window or members list.

I've found the source of the issue - the avatars in most places in the UI use the username, but the avatars in the sidebar use the full name.

If there is any difference in those fields (e.g. username 'lemmmy' but name 'Lemmmy'), it results in:

  • the server expecting /avatar/lemmmy
  • the server receiving /avatar/Lemmmy
