Working with LMDE 5?

That's a good question. I am not sure at all. And this Plymouth theme is "root stuff". Not something you can just try on your user account and easily delete if things go wrong...

That's just a quick response here. It would require more investigation. The core engine for this is https://github.com/SebastJava/plymouth-theme-mint-logo-2/blob/main/mint-logo-2/mint-logo.script

There you can see it comes from Canonical. That's Ubuntu... So... I don't know. I guess I would start looking at each command used in https://github.com/SebastJava/plymouth-theme-mint-logo-2/blob/main/INSTALLER.sh

Commands such as update-alternatives or update-initramfs. Are those commands available in LMDE? If they are, then, I would say it could possibly work. Maybe. On the other hand, if you can't find those commands on LMDE, then obviously it won't work.

To sum up, I can't just say "just try and see". This feels PRETTY DANGEROUS. Please stay safe :)

I know update-initramfs is available, but I'm not sure about update-alternatives.
I'll try it tonight, but I think this is Ubuntu stuff...
I'm not a total newb with Linux, so don't worry. :)
I've used sudo plymouth-set-default-theme -R "themename" without any problem.

In fact, the thing I'd really like to change in LMDE 5 is the Grub2 theme...
It's really ugly.
I've installed grub-customizer, but the Grub theme used in LMDE 5 seems undetected by grub-customizer.
Go figure...

I'll update the thread when I have a chance to look at the plymouth-theme.

While we are at it, you could try replacing the official logo with my secret, preferred one: https://github.com/SebastJava/plymouth-theme-mint-logo-2/blob/main/mint-logo-2/logo-trident.png (You probably can't see it here in GitHub because that's white and transparent on white background) All you need to do is to rename these logos this way:

Both logos are already there in that same /usr/share/plymouth/themes/mint-logo-2 You just have to rename them and then run
sudo update-initramfs -u

But please, start with the machinery studies and experiments. If this works and your computer did not go up in smoke, then you can try this artistic mod. I am just expressing my personal preferences here...

With LMDE 5 I had to do the plymouth theme installation by hand, but with LM 21 the installer script did everything automatically, thanks!

I will check the alternative logo tonight, thanks!

This is summer time and I understand you may have some other things on mind... Me too!

But, if you have some spare time, it would be nice if you could share your method(s) for this handmade installation on LMDE 5. For the benefit of the LMDE 5 community. You could take one of the following roads:

• You could just post your instructions here in this thread
• Or, you could use this nice GUI here in GitHub to fork this repository, then re-edit the README.md to add your LMDE 5 method, doing this re-edit directly here on GitHub, and then just open a pull request into my repository, right here: https://github.com/SebastJava/plymouth-theme-mint-logo-2/pulls
• Or, if you want to work hard, you could fork this repository here on GitHub, then clone your fork on your HDD, and go through lots of git CLI to re-edit the README.md, and then push it to your GitHub fork, and then, finally, open a pull request here. But that is an "overkill" IMHO. That's a way too complicated method for just a small add-on into README.md... But that's up to you...

But that is just a suggestion. Take your time.

In fact I did "sudo nemo" to then open the theme archive and copy the theme to /usr/share/plymouth/themes.
This is equivalent to the first part of your INSTALLER script.
After that I just did "sudo plymouth-set-default-theme -R mint-logo-2".
The -R switch does the update-initramfs -u automatically.
It's in fact much simpler than with Ubuntu... :)
