Dear all,
Recently, our platform has taken significant steps by moving towards a fully open source model: we have made some essential infrastructural changes, we have published the production code to GitHub, and we have started working on the documentation about how our app is built. This transition is not just a change in name but a commitment to openness, collaboration, and accessibility in the pursuit of improving access to digitized medieval manuscripts.
From "Open Source" to Just "DMMapp"
The DMMapp's main repository has been renamed from "DMMapp - Open Source" to "DMMapp - Digitized Medieval Manuscripts app". This change reflects an important realization: the term "Open Source" is not just a label but the very essence of the DMMapp. There isn't a "Closed" version of the DMMapp; there is only the DMMapp, a platform that embodies the principles of open-source software.
Why This Matters
The Impact of Going Open Source
The transition to an open-source model has far-reaching implications for the DMMapp and its stakeholders:
Thank you for your continued support!
Yours,
The DMMapp Team
