If a user doesn't have an external presenter remote they could use a wireless mouse to click the left or right button to advance or backtrack lines.

Another idea is to add "zones" for the presenter, clicking the right half or bottom half would advance and vice versa.

Or add more than just the + button to open the controller and add basic up and down arrow keys that the user can click which is still quite minimal.

Middle click can be autoselect, There are often button 4 and 5 as well, the back can be < and forward can be > hotkeys.
