Introduce Apple pay button on cart

Would it be possible to get an idea about adding Apple Pay buttons into Hydrogen? Is it something that is on the horizon at all?

Could you provide some information on what is the blocker here? I've not found any comments or answers online. I've looked through the codebase and it appears, like the comment on that thread suggested, the code was removed (although it looked more like a POC than functional code).
