Hi there!
I recently switched away from Huawei and it turns out its photo app had one feature that almost no other app implements:
As soon as entering selection mode, it was still possible to click a corner of a thumbnail to maximize it.
This was super useful for taking a closer look, comparing similar photos etc.
So I took a look at what apps are available and found that there are pretty much no apps offering such a mechanism.

I found very few with following approaches:

  • Show a "maximize" icon in a corner of thumbnails while in selection mode (Huawei Photo App, for Huawei devices only)
  • Show a single "maximize" button in display corner, allowing to switch between thumb grid and single column preview (Google Photos App)
  • Tap and Hold to show large image (like on instagram, didn't find any app doing it).

To make it easier to follow along, here are some screenshots.

on the left, one can see the huawei app. (once maximized, one is able to swipe left/right between photos)
the two screenshots on right side show the states of google photo app.
Unbenannt

I'm hesistating to use the Google Photos app cause its privacy feels very messy.
It would be fantastic to see this as a built-in or toggleable feature in a solid & safe open source project!
