Your system information

  • Steam client version latest non beta
  • Distribution Arch linux (gnome xorg, gnome wayland, hyprland, i3)
  • Opted into Steam client beta?: [No]
  • Have you checked for system updates?: [Yes]
  • Steam Logs: [generate by running this command in a terminal tar -zcvf ~/Desktop/steam-logs.tar.gz ~/.steam/steam/logs]
  • GPU: AMD 6700xt

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

Around a week ago steam client stopped working (probably after system update)
Client opens for a second, immediately closes
Steam can still launch games from whatever was recent in the systray given it was launched with -silent
Steps taken to troubleshoot:
Rolling back libs updated around that date - did not help
Install lib32-libnm (it was one of the suggestions given to similar symptoms)
renaming .local/share/Steam folder - steam redownloads everything but than login window crashes in a loop after a second and reopens infinitely

Chromium and heroic games launcher act the same way (crash after a second) , unless i specify ozone platform wayland for chromium, than it works perfectly fine

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. honestly, no idea, i do not have a single clue after reading logs for a few days, core dumps are uninformative and all i see in webhelper logs are ibus [warnings]
    steam-logs.tar.gz
    core.steamwebhelper.1000.382c1f739db54262a1ccad8dbb10f3d0.55250.1735744637000000.zst.zip

Hello @YamatoHD, this reads more like a general graphics issue than a Steam issue since other applications are affected. MESA-LOADER: failed to open dri: /usr/lib/gbm/dri_gbm.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory (search paths /usr/lib/gbm, suffix _gbm) in webhelper-linux.txt caught my eye as a possible hint. That file should be coming from the distro's 64 bit mesa package. Can you check that /usr/lib/gbm/dri_gbm.so is healthy?

a week more of troubleshooting i stumbled upon an issue in NWG-LOOK incorrectly applying themes, suggested workaround was to set the same theme to widget, theme and cursor.
It worked, nothing is crashing any more, issue is resolved
