Is there any interest in creating block theme copies of the older classic default themes?
It was something that was experimented with in the theme-experiments repository.

Either one theme that has templates and style variation for each theme, or, a separate block theme for each theme.

I wonder if a block theme equivalent of the classic themes could help show users what the difference between a classic theme and a block theme is, or help motivate users to switch to block themes.
This is pure speculation. There is no user testing that shows if this would be the case.

@karmatosed was interested in making a theme that uses the old default themes styles as variations. And adding multiple variations for different templates like TT4 does seems like a good idea for a theme like that too.

I think it would be interesting to explore, and if anyone wants to take up any of those, this would be a good place to do so since it's low stakes. If people don't use the theme, that is fine, too.

My personal opinion is that I'd rather install a theme designed in the last couple of years rather than a 10 year old design but that's my own bias, there are definitely use cases for those older designs for sure.

Love this idea @carolinan. I think there is room for quite a few explorations and I just proposed the one I was going to #164. Apologies it took me a little while to get up @MaggieCabrera.

There is something about retro and history, but I think there is a way to do this bringing some essence of the theme with the view from today. It will be fun to explore either way.

I'm happy to be involved in anything like this as I do think it's a great exploration so thank you for the issue.
