Allow heading, image, and paragraph blocks within Navigation block #46256
Comments
@bradhogan If you have some example use cases, it'd be good to share those. This is probably related to the discussion in Navigation block: Make nested menus fully customizable (Megamenus). Possibly even a duplicate of that issue. This comment specifically mentions experimenting with enabling some of those blocks - #23745 (comment). The problem at the moment is those blocks alone will be quite limited, the navigation block really needs some more layout options to support creating different kinds of menus. |
Hey, @talldan. A good example would be if you click the menu button (top right) on this site (IDEO). If this site was built in WP with the FSE and that menu was the navigation block, it would have a column block, menu block, heading, buttons, etc. It would be great to basically have all the block options you want within what would appear in the panel when a mobile nav menu button is clicked. |
Another example would be adding a language switcher to the navigation menu. |
This topic came up in the support forums. |
For the custom link whose url we not provide, just put the text, can we make it span instead of a tag? This way we can put simple text in between the menu, For example heading text before dropdown menu etc. |
Updating this title to remove button as that has been added for a while :) #35924 |
What problem does this address?
Currently, you can only add menu links and the social block to the navigation menu, which is limiting for designers - especially for mobile menus. Many platforms allow for multiple types of content to be displayed throughout a menu.
What is your proposed solution?
I suggest we allow users to drop the following blocks into the navigation block (at least for mobile > always) to help improve the design capabilities: Headings, Image, Paragraph and Button blocks.
