The CI on #206 highlights that our test suite doesn't cover any of the Jupyter-related code at the moment. It would be good to fix that. I'm not familiar with the relevant infrastructure, but surely the Jupyter project and related modules have some kind of frameworks for testing the Python/JS interactions.
