<p>Avevo da tempo in casa una versione di Alice in Wonderland annotata da Martin Gardner, famoso editor della colonna di giochi matematici di Scientific American. </p>
<p>Sono al capitolo <span class="caps">VI</span> (“Pig and Pepper”), dove Alice chiede al Cheshire Cat: </p>
<blockquote>
<p><span class="dquo">“</span>Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?”<br/>
“That depends a good deal on where you want to get to”, said the Cat.<br/>
“I don’t much care where —” said Alice.<br/>
“Then it doesn’t matter which way you go”, said the Cat </p>
</blockquote>
<p>Gardner commenta (nota 6, p.89): “These remarks are among the most quoted passages in the Alice books. A recent echo is heard in Jack Kerouac’s <strong>forgettable</strong> novel, On The Road […]”. </p>
<p>Gardner scriveva queste note negli anni ‘60, e colpisce questo giudizio perentorio dato a Kerouac, visto che al giorno d’oggi il libretto di Kerouac e’ considerato come una delle <a href="http://www.time.com/time/2005/100books/the_complete_list.html">colonne portanti della letteratura americana</a>. </p>
<p>Quindi: On The Road, forgettable but not entirely forgotten ? </p>
<p>Oppure: On The Road: vastly overrated ? </p>
<p>Io sono d’accordo con Mr. Gardner. </p>
