Cloud Cray at Python Project night suggested that it was probably wind causing issues. He suggested LIDAR, or doing some level of filtering of signals to reject outliers. The sensor reads fast enough that I can easily get 50 or 100 samples to reject outliers and then average from. The new sensor may also be better.
