I am experimenting with meshroom for PBR texture creation and high density 3D models. I found that with mesh smoothing even set to one, the result is significantly soft. If you compare a default meshroom output to a another commercial software like metashape, it will look like a soft toy in comparison, and this can make people think meshroom is not competitive in mesh quality compared to commercial software, when it actually is, in my tests.
I find that by enabling mesh smoothing, meshroom significantly undersells it's own potential. Other settings like describer quality and density, are also very conservative by default, and undersells the potential. Maybe there should be a visible preset where you can pick quality levels without needing to touch the nodes?
Is mesh smoothing the default in order to smooth out artifacts on very smooth and flat surfaces?
On the left there is no mesh filtering, and on the right is mesh smoothing set to 1, even if 5 is the default.
