Ignore double-click when modifier key held down

This might be more of a "me" thing than anything else, but going to throw it out there anyway.

My mouse is overly sensitive and will sometimes send a double-click when I've just clicked once on something. This is particularly annoying when I'm going through and Control-clicking a number of images - suddenly, one opens, my selections are cleared, and I have to start over with my selections.

Would it be feasible to change the behavior of the program so that it ignores a double-click if a modifier key (Control, Alt, Shift) is being held down?
