Get field details from graphql schema

How can I get field detail from graphql schema using graphql-tools

for example the schema is as below

type Test {
key: String!
id: String!
createdOn: DateTime!
updatedOn: DateTime!
}

I want the details for field 'key'. Particularly I am interested with type of the field. In this case it is 'String'

schema is GraphQLSchema and schema.getType('Test') returns GraphQLNamedType.
We don't have any method getFields() inside GraphQLNamedType. so schema.getType('Test').getFields().key.type.name is giving error

In debug I can see we have _fields object. how can we query field from this _fields object

You can test whether the returned type is an object type with isObjectType and then you will see the get Fields method, but probably makes more sense to just cast it to GraphQLObjectType?

Thanks, after typecasting the returned type to GraphQLObjectType, I am able to query the fields. I have another question though,

If I am trying to query a type of a field inside a complex schema, for example below is my json response from a backend service
and we want to find the type for field isGeneralAgreement

"Products": [
      {
        "id": "2280",
        "key": "11la4SPNSyu82qU4JuRRig==",
        "versions": [
          {
            "isGeneralAgreement": false
          }
        ]
      }
]

And the inside schema is

type Product {
  key: ID!
  id: ID!
  versions: [ProductVersion]!
}

type ProductVersion {
  isGeneralAgreement: Boolean!
}

This is what I am doing now. Is there any other effective solution

1. Query Product and get the Type for versions which is ProductVersion
2. Query ProductVersion and get the type for isGeneralAgreement which is Boolean!

That’s how I would find the type of a nested field. But, out of curiosity, why do you need to find the type? What are you trying to accomplish?

We are implementing graphql-tools along with graphql-mesh as an integration layer between graphql backend and react frontend.

We want to add few more fields to the backend response before sending it to frontend. For example from backend we are getting an response as below

"isGeneralAgreement": false

]
Before sending it to frontend I want to add one more field isAllowed to this response and update the value with versions[0].isGeneralAgreement which is 'false' in this case

"isAllowed": false,
"versions": [
{
"isGeneralAgreement": false
}
]
}
]

To achieve this I am using mergeSchemas from @graphql-tools/merge
mergeSchemas({
schemas: [schema],
typeDefs: ``,
resolvers: {}
})

I am creating field isAllowed with the type same as versions.isGeneralAgreement. For this reason I need to find the type.
what do you think of the solution approach. Any other efficient way to achieve the same functionality
