SSD1309 Oled support

Quick question does tasmota support oled displays with a SSD1309 chipset? (I2c)

I saw someone on the net mention that SSD1309 should be usable based on SSD1306 support, which Tasmota has. No experience with this.

More generally, support for new display types, or variants, are not done as Tasmota core code, but in a separate display descriptor configuration file.

Well, cleary it doesn't work 😅 as a simple swap, so either the chinese lie about the compatibility or there is more to it. Nevertheless thank you for the time

Did you make sure to have the I2C address detected, and matching what you have in DisplayAddess?

Yes, when tasmota starts, it finds a 'SSD1306' display at 0x3c it says:

And did you also verify that it matches DisplayAddress? That would be 60 in decimal.

(You also need to remember to power on the display, not just config it).

Yes it is 13:42:23.505 RSL: RESULT = {"DisplayAddress1":60}
As mentioned, a older 0.96" works fine, just the new 'SSD1309', so not so compatible as advertised, as I assume nothing has to be changed if it is compatible?

Looks like there is a selection done with the resistors to use i2c or 3 or 4 wire SPI.
Search if you find "somewhere" the setting which is used for the working one and modify the not working one to this setup.
The datasheet where it is described which IO pins needs to be set to enable i2c mode

Will have a look, it came in two choices, i2c -or spi, as the pin layout clearly is for i2c, one would assume correct selection is already made, otherwise it would be sold in a non working state?

Had some time to check, and it works fine on both display's with another library configured as I2C (https://github.com/olikraus/u8g2)
Used the 8x8->GraphicDemo example and configured as U8X8_SSD1306_128X64_NONAME_HW_I2C u8x8(/* reset=*/ U8X8_PIN_NONE);

(Part of the font missing is caused by photographing it with the phone, display is fine)

Have you tried it using Universal Display Driver?
Just tried a new bought SSD1309 with my existing udisplay driver config for SSD1306, works fine.

also tried a complete new flashed ESP with SSD1306 compiled (no udisplay), works fine too!
tried with 13.3.0.4 ..

it is a 2.42" version, I2c Adress is 0x3C -- display was SPI version and i soldered it to I2C

i just soldered the R11 0R bridge, all others are default underneath the flat cable..

Thank you. Would just like to verify if I've done everything properly to be ready for I²C. I know that I've ran the display with I²C some month ago (no tasmota), but would like to confirm my assumption. So, I tried the display run with tasmota 3 days ago but had no luck. Then, 2 days ago everything worked fine out of the box. I don't know what I've done in other ways.

mine is running with Tasmota 13.4.0
Some month ago I was about to update to a higher release but I did not get any output on the display. So I decided to stay with 13.4.0

Yes, you can use the one provided in your link.
In general the board has the ability to use both interfaces - i2c and SPI. You can find the preference on the backside of the PCB to choose from.
But if you would like to go safe, choose the i2c or SPI with the description in the offering.
