Project: Belonging2Soil - React.js Application

Running the Project

  1. Clone the repository.
  2. Navigate to the project directory.
  3. Run npm install to install dependencies.
  4. Use npm start to launch the app in development mode.
  5. Access http://localhost:3000 in your browser to view the application.

Overview

The "Belonging2Soil" project revolves around a parallax website created using React.js. This website serves as a comprehensive platform to showcase our mission, findings, data, results, media, and blog, all aimed at encouraging people to learn about the importance of soil ecosystems.

Title: Belonging to Soil: VR Experience, 2020 - 2023

Description: Explore the world beneath the surface through a virtual reality experience simulating the life of a springtail, a crucial creature in soil ecosystems. Traverse landscapes, interact with elements, and discover the beauty of soil in this immersive journey.

Materials:

  • Virtual Reality experience
  • VR headset with controllers
  • Charging station
  • Plant roots
  • Jute rug

Supported By: This project is made possible by a grant from the Arts & Humanities at The Ohio State University.

Instructions for VR Experience:

  1. Clean the headset using disinfecting wipes before use.
  2. Put on the VR headset, adjusting the fit with the turn wheel and Velcro strap.
  3. Grasp VR controllers, go to the designated "play area" on the round rug.
  4. Start the experience by pointing at the START menu.
  5. Follow instructions for operating the springtail avatar.
  6. After completion, place the headset and controllers back on the charging station.
