T248 and Oversteer Stopped Communicating #206

I don't think Oversteer is directly responsible for any of these. It's just another app and everything that's happening seems to be out of its reach. You can try a previous version of Oversteer and see if anything changes. If it isn't related to any of the latest changes in Oversteer then you have to look for other causes, like some configuration switch in the wheel if any, the driver or the firmware in the wheel. Since the changes you've noticed start even before Linux boots, I guess it must be something in the hardware, a switch or the firmware. |
That's what I suspected. - It's just that "nothing" has changed (within my knowledge of course), so I don't know where to look. - All that happened is me using the wheel a few days ago, putting it aside, wanting to use it today, and it doesn't work as usual. I'm still on version 0.8.0 (I still haven't figured out how to update or uninstall, as it doesn't seem to cooperate with instructions), so that hasn't changed either. Maybe a newer version would help, if I could get it installed, but it was working before on this version which I've used for months without fail. I don't know about the tmff2-driver, which I can only suspect broke through a system-update somehow, but I don't know how to check that or reinstall it. - But I'll ask over there about that. |
Yes, ask there. I don't think updating Oversteer will help for this case. |
Today I wanted to use my wheel as usual, but it's not responding as usual.
Normally, the wheel would just rotate freely until an application/game gives feedback-data. - Now it is under a constant heavy friction, so it's practically unusable. - I have already rebooted the system as well as disconnected and reconnected a bunch of times, but it doesn't seem to straighten it out. - I noticed that the force is (probably) applied as soon as the USB-connection is established. The force will be on before booting, then it will drop during BIOS-test, but continue straight after and remain into Linux.
What's more is that, while Oversteer does read the input from the wheel, its buttons and pedals, it won't take control in terms of rotation-range and force and all that. When functional, one would always override the other. As in, if you'd set the rotation for instance in Oversteer last, the wheel would get set to that (and you could read it back on the T248's display), but the other way around as well (or at least, the T248 would take the overhand even if you wouldn't see the real value in Oversteer, which doesn't change along with whatever the T248 dictates). - In any case, now Oversteer just can't override the on-board settings as usual, which is also why there is a constant friction rather than the wheel being completely loose (though, I think there should be no friction even before launching/applying Oversteer, so it might be an issue with hid-tmff2?).
I remember this being an issue months ago when I just tried to set this wheel up, but I don't remember what I did to fix it and I'm also not sure what changed. I've done nothing but let Pop!_OS install its updates and there haven't been any manual hardware or driver changes. - How could I troubleshoot this?
