the groundwork is begun for this feature 1994611

there are currently 4 hard-coded inputs and 2 hard-coded outputs but most functionality is mostly generalized for any number
the master record buffer has 2 hard-coded channels (this will probably remain true for some time)
the initial feature should support configurable routing and number of inputs and outputs
