spareo has nailed this one down to an issue with cilium seeming to ping the miner every 5s with same IP, different port. some kind of health check?

validator logs every 5s say something like:

Failed to handshake client "/ip4/10.244.0.167/tcp/51120": closed

That IP is per-node, and is part of the cilium router:

cilium status --verbose
