Hi! According to https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=982229 the tool genisoimage does not have a future in Debian, and they would like to stop ship the cdrkit package. I suspect there are many other ways to create ISO images, so this is a request to also support something else that is packaged by Debian already.

Thanks,
Simon

As mentioned in the Debian report, xorriso should be a maintained drop-in replacement, if called as xorriso -as mkisofs.
(mkisofs is the name of genisoimage from before the cdrkit fork.)
I believe xorriso is already packaged for all current Linux distros.
