Has the functionality been built yet to allow data to be stored on database like mongo, mysql etc instead of a local JSON store?

We are planning to support a Postgres backend in the near future.

Is there a timeline at all for this?
I would like to use red october in a project but I don't really feel comfortable with everything being stored in a text file
