wrong dancer selected in dropdown after creating new variable

after using New variable... in any dancer dropdown and then reopening the menu, the wrong thing is selected. After renaming a dancer, the new name is not selected in the dropdown:

worse, if the old dancer name exists somewhere else in the workspace, then the old dancer name is selected:

this related issue is cosmetic only -- the block still behaves as if the newly-created dancer name is selected, and selecting anything from the menu gets us back into a good state.
