Blankie needs to speak more languages!

Right now, Blankie only speaks US English (since that's the only language I fluently speak). To make it more welcoming and useful for everyone, I'd like to add proper language support via internationalization (i18n) and localization (l10n).

Quick note: While Blankie was inspired by Blanket (which has amazing translations in ~50 languages thanks to their volunteers), we're starting fresh with our own translations. This respects their GPL-3.0 license and their volunteers' hard work, plus Blankie isn't a direct port anyway.

Important: No AI Translations Please!

I strongly believe that low-quality AI translations are worse than no translations at all. User experience matters, so let's do this right with real humans who actually speak these languages. Please don't just dump the strings into ChatGPT!

What I'd Like to Accomplish:

  1. Use Xcode's Built-in Tools
Xcode actually has great localization features for:

    • Managing .strings files
    • Converting to/from .xliff
    • Handling different date/number formats
    • Managing localized assets
  2. Move All Text to .strings Files
We need to pull out all the user-facing text from the source code and put it in proper .strings files. This makes it way easier to translate and manage everything.

  3. Set Up Language Files
Create the right files for each language we want to support, using proper language codes so everything just works.

Interested in helping? The first thing is getting the code setup to handle localization files properly. After that, we can create a template for translators to work from. If you have experience with either of these, feel free to open a PR!
